I don’t know why God only recently allowed me to accept and understand this vital principle and key information about giving only Him my ‘Heart’, and everyone else my ‘Love’. Like many others, I’ve spent many years searching for love and satisfaction in all the wrong places with all the wrong people; desiring intimacy and closeness that would be returned. Maybe it is because I am now at a place in my life where I am more settled, and have a more ‘teachable’ spirit; learning to listen more, and speak less! Even when I know that I am right and have the correct information, I relinquish ‘my right to be right’. I choose to seek the Kingdom of God first now, and I am satisfied with Jesus alone!!! Halleluyah!!
With that being said, I digress.
A great man of God, my Pastor, Apostle Demetrius Robinson, recently caused me to have a spiritual paradigm shift, when he stated, “We must only give Jesus our hearts, and give everyone else our love.” How profound a statement!! He referenced Proverbs 3: 5-6, telling us to “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and lean not to your own understanding: but in all of your ways acknowledge Him, and he will direct your path.” He also added Proverbs 4:23, “Keep (guard) your heart with all diligence, for out of it flows the issues of life.” By ‘guarding’ our heart, (which is actually a spiritual gate to our very mind and spirit), we protect it by giving it only to Jesus. It is not the physical organ in our chest that pumps the blood throughout our bodies, but a spiritual place within, where the Holy Ghost operates through us. He is the only one who loves us with ‘agape’, unconditional love; His love protects our innermost thoughts and intents, preserving our spirits and sanity, while conforming us into the image of Jesus Christ. This responsibility is impossible for another person, and it is not fair to put this expectation on them; they are not equipped to handle the intense emotional understanding that the heart requires. Only after we give Jesus our heart, are we able to share love with the agape, the way He intends for us to. Husbands, Wives, Parents, and Children have been erroneously put into this position knowingly and unknowingly, only to let the person down eventually no matter how much they loved them. It is only when we allow The Fruit of the Spirit to manifest in us that we will love properly and unselfishly: Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Gentleness, Goodness, Faith, Meekness, and Temperance, gives us this ability. (Galatians 5:22; Colossians 3:12-14))
You now understand why so many of us experienced heart break after heart break throughout our lives; we were expecting others to give us only what Jesus could. Out of ignorance and what we learned in our families and environments, we trusted them with our most prized possessions, our hearts, and our bodies. These were only meant to be dedicated to the Father, with our bodies only to be shared with our spouses. My, how society has tarnished that order!! Of course we were wounded in the process, and many of us sustained emotional and mental scars that still affect us today. It is time to repent, ask for forgiveness, and posture our hearts back to the Father where they belong. The Father is ready to heal us with His Holy Ghost, allowing the healing ‘Balm of Gilead‘, (Jesus) to permeate our very being. Now, we must let a love ‘infection’ spread to others, because this holy ‘pandemic’ needs no cure!!
